InstrumentsI play several instruments, some more actively than others. Those that I have performed on at some point in the past include piano, guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, euphonium, tuba, double bass, drums, and voice if you count that as an instrument. Guitars and AmplifiersMy first electric guitar is one I still play often, a Fender Duo Sonic II made in 1965. At some point, the original paint was stripped from the guitar and today it is a gorgeous "honey blonde" wood finish. It has a rosewood fretboard and is a great playing and great sounding guitar. This was given to me as a birthday present from my father. It has the original case and, other than the paint, everything about the guitar is original and in fantastic condition. In 1994, my dad bought himself a brand new Ovation Collector's Series model 1994, which I appropriated from him sometime around 2001. This guitar sounds great both acoustically and through its built-in pickup and electronics. My second electric guitar has a bit of a story behind it. I set out to buy a Gibson ES-335 or a clone of one in early 2008 after I got settled into my new town. In the process of that search, I ended up joining a band that would be playing predominantly in smokey environments. To protect my main guitar, the Duo Sonic II, from smoke in the air and the like, I ended up getting a Fender Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster in the sunburst finish, lightly used by its prior owner. This is the only guitar that I've ever played that plays as well and sounds as good as my Duo Sonic II. As a funny aside, I also bought a second case for this guitar to protect its gorgeous original case from smoke and the like. Tragically for my finances, though, this purchase left me still wanting a semi-hollow guitar. RecordingsOver the years, I have recorded some music, most of it consisting of covers of others' songs but some of it original. This section will eventually contain some of my recordings. |
